What is Dadaism?
The dada movement is relevant to Slimy Mind in its rejection of ordinary lenses. It takes symbols - both visual and linguistic - and recontextualises them. The prevalence of white cis men to the initial movement (or at least, this is who has been documented), is something SM wants to break away from. We seek to evidence the links between absurdity queerness and biopolitics. Slimy Mind wishes to adopt the reclamation of bodily autonomy championed by the dadaists through the combination of movement, soundscape and poetry. Unlike the dadaists, however, Slimy Mind practices confessional forms of expression - those more akin to artists such as Kathy Acker, Chris Kraus, Miranda July, Greer Lankton and more. Perhaps we can form a Slimy movement that combines the complex sensibilities of confessional writing with the absurdism and deconstruction of dada? After all, don’t we need to deconstruct ourselves to confess?
